Posted by external sounds on July 22, 2010

This is the fourth heat of our 'Ticket To The Picnic' band competition. We have another 4 great bands who are set to battle it out for the chance to play a primetime set at The External Sounds Tent at this years Electric Picnic Festival. The bands that will compete in this heat to join The Fontanels, Anne Nagle & Take the money and run. In this final are...

OBJECT ELEVEN - Object Eleven are a 3-piece 'live sampling' band from Dundalk. Consisting of Dean Maher (Vocal,Guitar, Electronics), Aaron Roche (Bass guitar, Vocals) and Brian Andrews(Drums), Object Eleven are certainly one of the most exciting live bands using an array of samples, beatboxing, processors and effects.
The band was founded by Dean while studying for his B.A. in music technology in DkIT. Citing diverse influnceces such as Daft Punk, Beardyman and Led Zeppelin, Object Eleven are certainly bringing something unique to this competitiion.

THE DIRTY WALLS - Formed in it’s current incarnation towards the end of 2009, The Dirty Walls are a four-piece group from Drogheda/Dundalk. The group strives to bring the most original groove it can to an audience, with the help of solid guitar hooks mixed with synthsizer pop. The group has played some great shows,
which have included a few in ‘The Spirit Store’, Dundalk. They site influences such as ‘Joy Division’, ‘Placebo’, ‘The Killers’, ‘Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘The Rapture’ and ‘Bloc Party’. The band will soon be going into the studio to record their debut E.P.

EMILYS ELDEST - Ben and Eileen make up folk/electronica duo Emilys Eldest. Ben started out writing poetry, but started seriously writing songs about 2 year’s ago .He met eileen at a poetry reading last year and they formed Emilys Eldest. They have since performed at the Flatlakes festival and also Le Cheile festival.
Influences include Boards of Canada. Bat for Lashes, Kelley Stoltz, Miranda al Raad, Penguin cafe Orchestra, Fairport convention, Kraftwerk to name but a few.

ATTICA STATIC- Attica Static were formed in 2006 when four school friends decided that their shared love for Incubus would be enough reason to start a band.
With Sam Fairman, on guitar, Steven McKeown on bass, Kris Rogers on drums and Darren Kierans taking charge of vocal duties, the band then under the name of 'Hotcarl' prospered and went through the ranks as an underage band in Dundalk and nearby areas. As they grew they played many great shows in venues such as Dundalk's Spirit Store in 2007 & 2008. Since then, the band took a long break from performing but continued to experiment and write music together.
Attica Static was the new name chosen to represent a new chapter in how the band was to be seen, doing away with the old name 'Hotcarl', sees itself as a totally new prospect, starting from scratch and giving everything for all their potential to be reached, and is confident in their abilty to write the best new music with catchy but powerful rock, with interesting song structures & lyrics.
