We are delighted to announce that we are bringing back dj legend Norman Jay for our June Bank Holiday Special @ The Purple Room. This event will be part of the Beat On The Boyne Festival which takes place that weekend. After last year's sell out performance at The Purple Room we have no doubt this is going to be another very special performance and a night no to be missed..

Norman Jay has been a stalwart of modern black music for nearly 3 decades. Born in London in the 1960's he began dj'ing at the tender age of 8 years old and has gone on to become arguably one of the finest and most respected deejays in the world today. Instrumental in bringing soul, disco and later hip hop to the UK, Norman Jay’s career as a DJ has seen him grace the airwaves of legendary pirate station Kiss, later a handful of BBC networks, playing warehouse parties and the celebrated Shake ‘n’ Fingerpop sessions as well as running the Talkin' Loud label with Gilles Peterson. His Good Times Sound System parties with his brother Joey at Notting Hill Carnival are the stuff of many legends, known across the globe and most of all still happening every year. Jay’s passion for great dance music – from rare groove to hip hop, disco and house

His dj style encompasses many forms of black music, including soul, funk, disco, hip-hop and garage. Perhaps his enduring popularity (lies in this rare democratic approach to his playlist. Another factor is his foresight and innovation: Jay was listening to early Chicago house records and staging warehouse parties three years before the UK's acid house explosion of 1988. He is also the "DJ's DJ", with many contemporary superstar DJ's citing him as an early influence.

UK music publication 'Muzik' magazine called him a "man of the people", and it was this popularity, talent and dedication to his music that seen him honored by Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Birthday Honours List in 2002. He is one of the most in demand djs in the world and regularly plays super clubs as well as festival main stages, so you don't want to miss this rare opportunity to see him play a venue as intimate as the purple room.

Tickets for this event are 13 euros. We do however have some special earlybird tickets for just 10 euros. these will be on sale at The Purple Room the weekend of the Arts Festival only. There is a very limited amount so get them quick!
